She was a mother doing what mothers do: loving her children, building a life with her family, working, praying, and expecting tomorrow to arrive much like the day before it. Then illness changed everything.<\/p><p>When Susan\u2019s daughter, Kara, developed serious kidney disease, ordinary family life became a world of doctors, hospital rooms, treatments, medications, transplants, difficult decisions, unexpected victories, and frightening setbacks. Through it all, Susan remained beside her daughter.<\/p><p>She did not always feel strong. She did not always understand what was happening.
