Susan Wingfield is the author of Kara: Held in God’s Hands, a deeply personal story of her daughter’s courage, a family’s journey through kidney disease and loss, and the faith that carried them forward.
Susan Wingfield never set out to become the voice behind a story like this. She was a mother doing what mothers do: loving her children, building a life with her family, working, praying, and expecting tomorrow to arrive much like the day before it. Then illness changed everything.
When Susan’s daughter, Kara, developed serious kidney disease, ordinary family life became a world of doctors, hospital rooms, treatments, medications, transplants, difficult decisions, unexpected victories, and frightening setbacks. Through it all, Susan remained beside her daughter.
She did not always feel strong. She did not always understand what was happening. But her faith became the place she returned to when circumstances were beyond her control.
Kara’s death brought a loss that words could never fully contain. Writing Kara: Held in God’s Hands became Susan’s way of preserving the daughter behind the diagnosis: her courage, personality, dreams, kindness, faith, and the light she brought into the lives around her.
Today, Susan shares their story so other families facing illness or grief may find something she knows matters deeply during hard seasons: the knowledge that someone understands.
